"Ghost stories don't get any better than this."--J.R. Rain

Buried deep in a ravine in the picturesque Smoky Mountains is a very dark secret.

David Hobbs, vacationing with his wife Miriam, inadvertently stumbles upon a small cloth ‘keepsake’ bag and a broken tooth. A human tooth. Miriam begs David to hand the bag and tooth over to park officials, but he ignores his wife’s pleas and secretly keeps the ‘harmless’ items. The action opens a doorway that had been closed for nearly a hundred years and unleashes hell on earth, or at least hell in the lives of David and Miriam.

Following the brutal murder of his best friend in Denver, and unprovoked attack on his oldest son, David desperately seeks to understand why a mysterious teenage girl has chosen to terrorize him and the males closest to him. To prevent further devastation to his family and end the wanton bloodshed, he returns to the enchanted hills of eastern Tennessee, where a terrible truth awaits discovery... one that forces him to face the consequences for the unpaid sins of his ancestors.

Acclaim for Aiden James

"The intense writing style of Aiden James kept my eyes glued to the story and the pages seemed to fly by at warp speed. ...Twists, turns, and surprises pop up at random times to keep the reader off balance. It all blends together to create one of the best stories I have read all year."
--Detra Fitch, Huntress Reviews for "The Devil's Paradise"

"Aiden James has written a deeply psychological, gripping tale that keeps the readers hooked from page one."
--Bookfinds review for "The Forgotten Eden"

"Aiden James writing style flows very easily and I found that "Cades Cove" snowballed into a very gripping tale. Clearly the strengths in the piece were as the spirit's interaction became prevalent with the family... The Indian lore and ceremonies and the flashbacks to Allie Mae's (earthly) demise were very powerful. I think those aspects separated the work from what we've seen before in horror and ghost tales."
--Evelyn Klebert, author of "A Ghost of a Chance" and "Dragonflies"

"Aiden James has a keen eye for detail and an uncanny knack for scaring the hell out of me. We are watching a master at work. "The Raven Mocker" is a nearly perfect thriller. Ghost stories don't get any better than this."
--J.R. Rain, Bestselling author of the "Vampire for Hire" series

"As with the previous titles I have read by this author, I found the author's writing style to be silky smooth and the main plot line to be extremely creative. The fertile imagination of Aiden James definitely knows what today's readers want to see in their stories."
--Detra Fitch, Huntress Reviews for "The Vampires' Last Lover"

Cades Cove The Curse of Allie Mae Cades Cove Series Book 1 eBook Aiden James

I "bought" this book when it was free. I assumed it was like many of the free books Kindle provides in the way that many are amateur writing, barely passable for some sort of fan fiction. This one however is different.
The writing is well done. There is one gruesome scene where I could barely read because it was so descriptive which leads me to say, this isn't for the faint of heart. This is definitely worth a read if you like horror fiction and ghost stories. It is even more worth the read if you already know of Cades Cove and the surrounding area.
I am a Southern lady, and I have vacationed in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN many many times. I have visited Cades Cove since I was a small child. The author clearly writes what he knows. My only "unfair" criticism is that the main character grew up in the South but mysteriously refers to sweet tea as iced tea.
[Minor spoiler for those already reading and are fearful for animal safety: no dogs are killed in the book. I do not know about sequels though. I wish I had known that so I would have had less anxiety throughout the book.]

Cades Cove The Curse of Allie Mae Cades Cove Series Book 1 eBook Aiden James Reviews

First off, I read a LOT!! Sometimes the books are bad, sometimes they're good...but the ones that grab you on the first page & get your adrenalin going so much so that you just have to finish it are few & far between....this story is one of the elite few I have read that I couldn't put down from the first page to the last...it's a total roller coaster ride of a ghost story...my husband & I vacation in Tennessee & always love Cade's Cove & that is the reason I picked up the book. Needless to say I am so glad I did...the characters are very well done & the story is believable. The backdrop of the Smokies, Gatlinburg ,Pigeon Forge and the Cherokee Nation are also well described. Can't wait to read the sequel....Kudos to the author, because I haven't enjoyed a ghost story like this in ages....would give it 10 stars if I could....great job!
After hearing so many positive reviews of Aiden James's work, I decided to check out this novel. It is the first book in the Cades Cove series, and an auspicious beginning it is.
.
When David and Miriam go on vacation to Tennessee for their anniversary, David discovers a bag of trinkets in the grass at Cades Cove. David brings the bag home when their vacation ends, but trinkets weren't the only thing he brought back. The evil attached to the bag may cost David his life, as well as the lives of his family.
.
The basic haunted house story is turned on its head when James mixes in some Native American shamanism, and the blend will have the reader on the edge of their seat. James has written a fantastic horror story/psychological thriller. The characters are well-scripted, and there are very few moments that drag on during the book. If the rest of the series is as suspenseful as The Curse of Allie Mae, I will be very interested in continuing the series.
.
My Rating 4.25/5 stars
I have read the updated version of Cades Cove The Curse of Allie Mae and it is a more cohesive story then the original. The original was great but this one is even better. The story flows much more smoothly. I am a fan of Appalachian folklore and history and really enjoy reading fictional stories based on the tales of the past in the Appalachians. Having recently just visited Gatlinburg, TN, this made the story even more interesting and real. I am going to continue reading the next in the series. Thanks for the great read, Aiden James!
David and Miriam Hobbs travel to the Smoky Mountains wilderness in Tennessee for a romantic getaway. While there they discover Cades Cove, a lover’s lane hot spot during the 1800s and 1900s. Trees in the area have hearts with the names of couples inside, but one heart contains only has one name, “Allie.”

After making love and falling asleep the couple discovers a pouch with the words “Allie Mae’s Treasures.” David tells Miriam that he will return it to the ranger station, but instead, he takes the pouch home. Their home becomes haunted by the malevolent poltergeist of Allie Mae.

The book is a pretty standard ghost story which continues in another book, but after reading this, I feel no need to continue the story. I was particularly annoyed that the characters seemed so one-dimensional; Miriam spends an inordinate amount of time crying, Norm is a caricature of a sex addict, the Native Americans are caricatures of wise old Indians, David is just plain foolish, and so on.
Just finished reading "Cades Cove The Curse of Allie Mae" Book 1, by Aiden James. Another great read by this talented author. If you like ghost stories then this one is a must read. This is a 3 book series (I think) and I am looking forward to reading them all. This is the eighth book I've read by Aiden and I haven't been disappointed with any of them.
